This week I made a flying visit to the Big Apple to try out for Jeopardy! Since By the Rivers of Brooklyn doesn’ t have a US publisher yet, it’s a big soon to do much book promotion down there, but I did get to visit and drop off copies of the book (in hopes they’ll want to carry it) at three great independent bookstores: Book Court and WORD in Brooklyn, and McNally Jackson in Manhattan.

Can’t wait to read the book — I just ordered it. I’ve been wondering about the Newfoundlanders in Brooklyn ever since reading those Brooklyn chapters in The Colony of Unrequited Dreams….
Perhaps you can give a talk at Brooklyn College — our incoming president is an expert on Canadian literature!

Joe, thanks for the comment — I hope you like the book! When you get to the modern-day section at the end of the book you will find a tiny passing reference to Brooklyn College. Let me know what you think when you’ve read it!

I got the book!!! Yeah!!!! I worked yesterday evening so I ended staying up until 1 am reading it. If there is any fault to it, it is that you don’t find out what happens to Rose until late. Is this the parts you had to edit out because I want to see more of Rose’s story. I finally skipped to the Rose parts just so I could go to bed. One-third to go so I’ll be done by this afternoon. Still have to be a grown up and do other stuff, you know.

Nope, I never edited out any scenes at all — just tightened what was there. What you know about Rose is exactly what I meant for you to know.
Glad you’re enjoying it though!

[WARNING: BIG SPOILERS IN SHARON'S COMMENT!]
Okay, I have finished it. You did write more about Rose
I missed the section between her coming into the Salvation Army meeting and when she becomes a full fledged minister. There are still large sweeps of time between, but this is much better.
